WHAT IS STOPMOLAB

StopMoLab, now entering its third edition, is an intensive educational training program designed for individuals aspiring to excel in the stop motion animation industry.

With a focus on nurturing young talent and fostering international career development, StopMoLab offers a comprehensive curriculum spanning for 8 months. Led by internationally renowned professionals, the program comprises a diverse range of activities including talks, case studies, masterclasses, mentoring sessions and lectures.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

The program is structured around three core pillars: professional skills, business skills, and mentoring.

Participants will engage in extensive individual mentoring (45 hours), coaching, workshops (44 hours), and lectures (42 hours).

Additionally,  participants will benefit from onsite workshops held in Łódź and gain access to the Animarkt Stop Motion Forum from October 11th to 18th.

The program runs from May 2024 to December 2024, offering flexibility in payment with a full program fee of 3250 euros or two installments of 1875 euros each. Application forms must be submitted by April 14th, 2024. The recruitment deadline for StopMoLab has been extended until April 22nd!

MENTORING

During this years edition of StopMoLab participants will have the opportunity to refine their skills and knowledge through tailored mentoring and workshop programs, categorized into four specialized groups.

PUPPET ANIMATION

Group led by Tobias Fouracre, known for his work as the main animator in “Corpse Bride” and director of “Save Ralph.”

ART DIRECTORS

Group led by Francesca Maxwell, renowned for her contributions to “Chicken Run” and “Fantastic Mr. Fox.”

PRODUCTION
MANAGEMENT

Group led by Kerdi Oengo, who is the executive producer of the stop-motion animation studio Nukufilm since 2005 and has been the producer or production manager of 40  animation shorts plus S3D feature “Lisa Limone and Maroc Orange” by Mait Laas.

PUPPET
MAKING

Group led by Paul Mathot (Pedri Animation studio), acclaimed for his work in creating puppets for major productions such as the 4 Solan and Ludvig films, “Hakkebakkesogen” and “Oink”

The mentoring program encompasses a comprehensive learning journey. It consists of five online workshops, where participants will receive guidance from mentors and tasks to complete, fostering continuous growth and development.

In addition to these virtual sessions, participants will engage in a four-day onsite workshop in Łódź, Poland. This immersive experience offers a unique opportunity for hands-on learning and collaborative exploration, further enhancing the program’s impact and fostering deep connections among participants.

LECTURES AND MASTERCLASSES

StopMoLab stands out as a premier opportunity for aspiring animators to receive world-class training and guidance from industry experts and this is why during the StopMoLab program, participants will have access to 23 lectures and masterclasses covering diverse aspects of the stop-motion animation industry.

We strongly believe that comprehensive training across various aspects of the industry is essential for participants to deepen their understanding and foster their ongoing development.

Lectures and masterclasses will be led by professionals with notable credits such as:

  • Georgina Hayns – Director of Character Fabrication at ShadowMachine. Known for her work for movies such as “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio”, “Mars Attacks”, “Corpse Bride”, “Kubo and the Two Strings” and more.
  • Niki Lindroth von Bahr – distinguished for her work as the lead on story two for Netflix’s “The House” anthology.
  • Tim Allen – an animator who recently worked on films such as “Chicken Run 2″ and “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio”.
  • Rachel Larsen – an animator, co-creator of “The Tiny Chef Show”.
  • Simon Quinn – renowned for his work on “Isle of Dogs” by Wes Anderson and “Frankenweenie” by Tim Burton.
  • Leticia Montalvá Sánchez – Animation Producer and partner at Pangur Animation, where they produced the pilot for “The Inner Life” (2022) and the short film “Interns” (2023), Berlanga Awards 2023 winner and the Goya Awards 2024 nominee.
  • Johan Edström – producer specializing in animation and visual effects. Owns and runs the animation production company APPARAT Filmproduktion AB and is a partner of the production company THE CHAPEL FILMS AB.
  • Katarzyna Gromadzka – Momakin co-funder and co-owner, producer, animation talents’ representative and coordinator of Polish Quality project promoting Polish artists. Since 2023 licensed Eco-Consultant of Audiovisual Production (certified by KIPA).
  • Alberto Hernández Mérida – seasoned stop-motion animator from Mexico, currently based in Budapest, Hungary. Experienced in doing animations for music videos, TV segments, social media advertising and more!
  • Mentors: Francesca Maxwell, Kerdi Oengo, Tobias Fouracre, Paul Mathot – All mentors will conduct additional masterclasses open to all participants.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg – many other industry experts will also contribute to the program, ensuring participants receive a comprehensive and invaluable learning experience.

WORKSHOPS

During StopMoLab we offer a series of 11 dynamic business workshops tailored to the needs of aspiring professionals in the animation industry.

Delve into topics such as: Animation & Crowdfunding, Writing Stop Motion Animation, How to build your own brand, Crafting a Professional Portfolio and more.

Gain valuable insights into the film project development process, learn effective job interview techniques, and explore the vital role of producers and financing in the industry. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to elevate your skills and knowledge in the world of stop-motion animation.

During the course, participants will also benefit from an additional 5-hour workshop focusing on interdisciplinary collaboration between various professions from our mentoring programs.

CAREER DAYS

As part of the StopMoLab program, participants will have the exclusive opportunity to meet representatives from renowned animation studios during the Career Days at Animarkt Stop Motion Forum.
